Introduction

Welcome to the Level 3 Diploma Practitioner in Personal Training. This qualification encompasses and combines elements of both the Level 2 Certificate in Planning & Delivering Gym-based Exercise and the Level 3 Certificate in Planning & Delivering Personal Training into one qualification. 

Level 2

Gym instructors provide a key role within health and fitness settings and are considered by many as the face of the organisation.

Following a successful membership sale, gym instructors are normally the next person a new customer will interact with, therefore they need to be welcoming and professional, building a positive report and making them feel at ease. Gym instructors provided valuable technical input, therefore their knowledge and understanding of how the body reacts to exercise must be strong. This will help them to support clients whether their goals and guide them through positive behaviour change, whilst also ensuring the health and safety of all members is maintained throughout their visit.

The aim of the Level 2 element of this qualification is to provide you with the skills and knowledge to a professionally competent level enabling you to plan deliver and evaluate safe and effective fitness instruction sessions unsupervised via the context of gym-based exercise. The purpose of the Level 2 element of this qualification is to:

  • To develop your knowledge of anatomy and physiology and how it relates to exercise and fitness.
  • To develop your ability to plan and deliver safe and effective gym sessions.
  • Provide you with the knowledge to develop good customer service and the personal qualities required by the exercise and fitness industry.
  • Provide you with an awareness of health and safety in an exercise and fitness environment.
  • Provide you with the opportunity to progress to further qualifications in the exercise and fitness industry.

ASSESSMENT METHODS

You will complete:

  • Units 1-6.
  • Complete ‘knowledge checks’ at the end of each topic area.
  • Complete ‘assignments’ where required (see LAP for more details).
  • Complete your  Learner Achievement Portfolio – ‘LAP’ (which is available to download on the ‘materials’ tab at the top of any course for which you are enrolled).
  • Complete your ‘practical assessments’ (information for your practical assessments is located within your LAP and in learner materials).

Level 3

Personal trainers (PT’s) play a key role within health and fitness settings and are considered by many as the standard of information and knowledge around the area of health and fitness. PT’s should be able to converse, interact with and understand a variety of people with differing fitness and lifestyle goals, with the purpose of helping them achieve their goals, in whatever capacity that may be. 

The purpose of the Level 3 element of this qualification is to train you to a professionally competent level, enabling you to prescribe, plan and deliver safe and effective exercise programmes, developing your skills and knowledge to pursue a career in personal training. The aim of the Level 3 element of this qualification is to:

  • Further develop your knowledge of anatomy and physiology and how it relates to exercise and fitness.
  • Further develop your ability to plan and deliver safe and effective gym sessions, for a variety of individuals with differing needs.
  • Provide you with the knowledge to develop good customer service and the personal qualities required by the exercise and fitness industry.
  • Provide you with an awareness of health and safety in an exercise and fitness environment.
  • Provide you with the knowledge and understanding ones self and how to effectively communicate with customers and clients.
  • Provide you with the skills needed to set-up, market and sell personal training sessions via a personal training business. 
  • Provide you with the opportunity to progress to further qualifications in the exercise and fitness industry.
